BOISE, Idaho – The Fresno State men's tennis team fell in the semifinals of the 2017 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship 4-3 to #3 UNLV.
The Bulldogs finish the season 18-13 (5-2 MW).
'Dogs take the doubles point
UNLV took the win at No. 1 doubles when Jakob Amilon and Evaldo Neto defeated Euan McIntosh and Patrik Pech 6-2.
Xander Veys and Mantas Bugailiskis bested their opponents at No. 2 doubles in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5).
The doubles point was clinched at No. 3 doubles when Youssef Hassan and Zdenek Derkas defeated their opponents 7-5.
Rebels outlast 'Dogs in singles
Mantas Bugailiskis gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead when he defeated is opponent at the No. 4 position in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
Fresno State took a 3-0 lead when Xander Veys defeated Mountain West Player of the Year, Jakob Amilon, at the No. 1 position in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
UNLV took its first point when Youssef Hassan fell to Charlie Croxford at the No. 6 position 7-5, 7-5.
The Rebels cut the deficit to one when Henrique Osorio was forced to retire at the No. 5 position due to injury.
The match was tied 3-3 when Euan McIntosh fell in three sets to Alexandr Cozbinov at the No. 2 position 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.
UNLV took its fourth point at the No. 3 position when Zdenek Derkas fell to Ruben Alberts in a hard fought three set match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
