COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West announced its outdoor track and field all-conference team on Monday. Six Fresno State individuals accounted for seven honors, including six coming from the women's team.
The announcement comes after the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships that were held May 10-13 at the Ralph Maughan Track Stadium. The all-conference team consists of the top three finishers in each event and the all-conference relay teams consist of the top three team finishers in each relay.
The first three to garner honors were the Bulldogs' three MW champions: Kayla Hopkins, Annemarie Schwanz and Vanja Spaic. Hopkins defended her 2016 crown in the discus. The junior landed a first-attempt throw of 175'-7" (53.35m) which held up through the six rounds of throws. Schwanz also successfully repeated in her main event, the 1500 meters, winning with a time of 4:24.91. The fifth-years enior also added a second medal, capturing bronze in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.35. Spaic claimed gold in the javelin with a personal-best mark of 163'-1" (49.71m). This came a year after the sophomore earned bronze in the event. All three entered the meet with the top marks in their main events.
