FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State track and field team will be in action at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas May 25-27, at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Bulldogs will have six individuals set to compete throughout the three days, all seeking a spot in the NCAA Championships, set for June 7-10 in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field.
What to watch for (all times Pacific):
THURSDAY (May 25)
9a.m. – Aisiah Tuiasosopo (Hammer, First Rd.)
3 seeded flights of 16. Single round. 3 attempts. Advance top 12 overall placers to Eugene.
1 p.m. - Vanja Spaic (Javelin, First Rd.)
3 seeded flights of 16. Single round. 3 attempts.
Advance top 12 overall placers to Eugene.
3:30 p.m. - Annemarie Schwanz (1500m, First Rd.)
4 heats of 12. Advance top 5 from each heat, plus next 4 fastest times to quarterfinal.
5:20 p.m. – Maja Pogorevc (400m, First Rd.)
6 heats of 8. Advance top 3 from each heat, plus next 6 fastest times to quarterfinal.
FRIDAY (May 26)
10 a.m. - Kayla Hopkins, Yazmin Torres (Discus, First Rd.)
3 seeded flights of 16. Single round. 3 attempts. Advance top 12 overall placers to Eugene.
3:30 p.m. – Women's 400m Quarterfinal
3 heats of 8. Advance top 3 from each heat, plus the next 3 best times to Eugene.
SATURDAY (May 27)
4 p.m. – Kayla Hopkins (Shot Put, First Rd.)
4 seeded flights of 12. Single round. 3 attempts. Advance top 12 overall placers to Eugene.
4:30 p.m. - Women's 1500m Quarterfinal
2 Heats of 12. Advance top 5 from each quarterfinal, plus next 2 best times to Eugene.
Summary: Athletes who rank among the top-48 in their respective event in the west region earn berths into the NCAA West Preliminary Round. The best 24 relay times also advance to NCAA Prelims. Athletes finishing with the top-12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 7-10.
The same standard is used for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, which is being held in Lexington, Ky.
