Fifth-year senior one of 10 selected to the District 8 team.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State's Annemarie Schwanz was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team on Thursday. The fifth-year senior holds eight school records between the cross country and track and field while also working on her master's degree in civil engineering.
Â
Schwanz became a three-time Mountain West champion this year after adding the 2017 indoor mile and outdoor 1,500 meters gold medals to her list of career accomplishments. With this spring's win in the 1,500 meters at the MW Championships, she became only the second athlete in conference history to win back-to-back championships in the event with the first occurring from 2002-03. The native of Neuruppin, Germany added four all-conference honors to her career total which currently sits at seven. In all, she broke or reset five of her eight schools records during the 2016-17 season.
Â
After earning All-America honors at the 2016 NCAA Track & Field Championships last June in the 1,500 meters, Schwanz remained one of the top competitors in the event this year. She entered this weekend's NCAA West Preliminary Round No. 8 in the region and No. 11 in the country.
Â
Off of the track, Schwanz is a three-time Mountain West Scholar Athlete and Academic Team honoree while also being a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection, two from track and field and once for cross country. This is her second selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Schwanz was one of 10 student-athletes named to the District 8 team.
