Fresno State tees off its 2017-18 campaign September 11-12 in New Mexico
FRESNO, Calif. – Head women's golf coach Emily Loftin announced Fresno State's 2017-18 schedule on Friday. It features four fall events, with the opener September 11-12, and five spring tournaments, leading toward the annual Mountain West Championships at seasons end.
"I'm thrilled to release this season's competition schedule," said Loftin. "There are a few new events that are going to present great opportunities to compete against the best teams and players in the country. I know our team is going to be looking at this schedule with a lot of expectation and excitement."
The spring schedule also features the home-hosted Fresno State Classic, March 5-6. After three-straight years at San Joaquin Country Club, it returns to Copper River Country Club, where it was held nine years in a row until the move to San Joaquin CC in the fall of 2014.
"It is always a great experience for our team to compete here at home in front of the Red Wave," said Loftin. "I look forward to returning to Copper River to host some great competition from around the country, and of course, seek another Fresno State Classic title."
The season gets underway at the site of one of last year's NCAA Regionals – the UNM Championship Golf Club – that then-senior Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir was invited to a season ago. It will be the 'Dogs first trip to the Branch McGuire Invitational, hosted by New Mexico.
First-time visits continue with the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate (Gonzaga) on Sept. 26-27 and Bettie Lou Evans Invitational (Kentucky) on Oct. 6-8. A familiar location, the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, will close the fall schedule Oct. 22-24. The 'Dogs will make their seventh-straight trip to Las Vegas, a site that the 'Dogs set the program's all-time 54-hole team score (289-284-279=852) during the 2015-16 season.
Fresno State will return to the Gold Rush Invitational (Long Beach State) for the fourth year in a row to start the spring slate of events, Feb. 12-13, and will travel to the Bruin Wave Invitational, Feb 26-27, for its first bout at UCLA's annual tournament.
The Fresno State Classic is the middle of the spring schedule. It'll be the 14th edition of the Bulldogs' tournament that they have won five times.
The final two tournaments are the PING/Arizona State Invitational (March 23-25) and Tulsa's Dale McNamara Invitational (April 9-10) before the Mountain West Championships (April 16-18).
The PING/ASU Invitational will be a first while the 'Dogs will return to the Dale McNamara Invitational after making their inaugural trip last season.
