Comeback falls short as Hornets down 'Dogs 2-1

The Fresno State women's soccer team fell to Sacramento State 2-1 in overtime at Hornet Field on Saturday afternoon.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team fell to Sacramento State 2-1 in over time at Hornet Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 on the season.

FIRST HALF
The Bulldogs and Hornets traded possessions and remained scoreless through the first half.
Â
Nicole Theroux recorded one save to keep the Hornets scoreless as Fresno State owned the advantage in saves (1-0).
Â
Sacramento State owned the advantage in corner kicks (4-1). Both teams logged two shots in the first 45 minutes of play.

SECOND HALF
The Hornets attacked the goal four times before Caitlin Prothe found the back of the net on an assist from Mikayla Reed to give Sacramento State a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute.

With just nine minutes left in regulation, the Bulldogs answered back with an unassisted goal from sophomore Julia Glaser to tie the game at 1-1.

Sacramento State's offense came out strong in the second half, outshooting Fresno State 8-6.

Nicole Theroux recorded three saves in the half.

OVERTIME
Both teams were held scoreless through nine minutes of overtime play, but Kylee Kim-Bustillos found the back of the net in the 99th minute to lock in the 2-1 win for the Hornets.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bulldogs will remain on the road to face CSUN on Aug. 31. Fresno State will return home on Sept. 3 to host CSU Bakersfield at 7 p.m. PT in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
