An offensive and defensive linemen senior duo will lead the 'Dogs this season, starting with the home opener on Saturday at 7 p.m.
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State football head coach Jeff Tedford announced on Wednesday that senior offensive lineman Aaron Mitchell and senior defensive lineman Malik Forrester have been named captains for the 2017 season.
Mitchell, a native of San Diego who is on the 2017 Rimington Award Watch List, brings 24 consecutive starts over the last two seasons into his final campaign as a Bulldog this fall. As a junior in 2016, Mitchell started all 12 games with his first four starts coming at left guard and his final eight at center. His 24 career starts are the second-most on the team.
Forrester, a native of Annapolis, Maryland, enters his second season with the Bulldogs after transferring to Fresno State in 2016. In his first year at Fresno State, he started 11 games at nose guard and led the team's defensive line with 38 tackles (21 solo) – ranking as the sixth-most tackles among all Mountain West defensive linemen. The 6-1, 295-pound defensive tackle spent his first two seasons at a pair of schools getting his start at Division II Fairmont State in 2014 before making his way out to California in 2015 playing at Los Angeles Pierce College where he earned First-Team All-Pacific League by the Southern California Football Association.
While Mitchell and Forrester are two permanent captains for the 2017 season, Coach Tedford will also select two other student-athletes on a game-by-game basis to join Mitchell and Forrester on Saturdays.
