Wilson cruises into quarters at Battle in the Bay Classic

Junior earned a straight-set win to open singles play after winning her doubles match in the morning with Juliane Triebe.
SAN FRANCISCO – Day one of the Battle in the Bay Classic saw a trio of Fresno State wins with junior Emma Wilson going 2-0 on the day at the California Tennis Club.

Wilson began the day teaming up with sophomore Juliane Triebe as the two easily advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw with an 8-1 win over San Francisco's Shanna Dos Santos and Alexa Meyer. The No. 2-seeded Bulldogs will face USC's pair of Alexa Corcoleotes and Madison Westby tomorrow at 9 a.m.

During the afternoon, Wilson, the No. 3 seed in the singles draw, dispatched Corcoleotes in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The junior will face Santa Clara's Zeina El Tawil in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 1 p.m. Triebe fell 6-2, 6-3 in her opening match to the No. 4 seed, Angela Kulikov of USC. Despite the defeat, the Bulldog sophomore responded with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Pacific's Roos Nederstigt in her first match in the consolation bracket. She will now face Santa Clara's Katya Tabachnik in the semifinals of the bracket tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
