Q & A with freshman guard Bree Delaney.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's basketball team welcomed four freshmen into the program this fall. Prior to practices beginning on Oct. 2, GoBulldogs.com will introduce each member of the program's newest class.
Â
At 5-foot-10, Bree Delaney is an intelligent, versatile guard who can stretch defenses with her range from 3. She was named to the Australian Schools Team 2015 and 2016, earning MVP honors in 2015. Delaney was a member of the New South Wales State Team six straight years (2012-17) and was a part of the Sydney Comets Representative Team from 2008-2016, earning MVP and Player of the Year honors numerous times.
Â
During her high school years at Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College, she led her team to first-place finishes in each season. She was named the Player of the Year in 2016 as she averaged 20 points, eight assists and three steals per game in her final year.
Â
With the Bulldogs history of recruiting Australians since the early 2000's, Delaney will be just the second from Sydney.
Â
Q: What is your favorite basketball memory?
A:Â Hitting the winning shot in overtime at the Australian high school national tournament and being named Tournament MVP. Â
Â
Q: What was your earliest memory of playing basketball?
A: Winning my first under 6's game 14-7. I was a part of an all-girls team and we beat the all-boys team.Â
Â
Q:Â What part of your game have you been working on most during the offseason?
A: My ability to finish under pressure in the paint, and adjusting to the physicality of college level basketball.Â
Â
Q: Who do you try to model your game after?
A: Leilani Mitchell. I like her ability to shoot from outside but also attack the basket and score over bigger players.Â
Â
Q: What will you be able to bring to the team?
A: Competitiveness, a good knowledge of the game, a sense of team camaraderie and high work ethic.Â
Â
Q: How would you describe your game?Â
A: Good outside shooting skills and I like to get teammates involved in the game. I see the floor well and find ways to exploit the defense.Â
Â
Q: What is the best thing that you have gotten from basketball?Â
A: An ability to work in a team environment and character building experiences.Â
Â
Q: Why did you choose the number you wear?
A: I've never worn No. 20 before but it's a combination of my favorite number, six, and my mother's playing number which was 14.Â
Â
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
A: In Sydney, I love being close to both the city and the beach. I only live about 15 minutes from both.Â
Â
Q: Did you grow up playing any sports besides basketball?
A: I played netball, did dance and surf lifesaving.Â
Â
Q: What is one random fact that people wouldn't know about you?
A: I was in an episode of a kids TV show.
Â
Q: What is your dream job (not including playing basketball)?
