FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team completed their second shutout of the 2017 season, with a 3-0 win over CSU Bakersfield.
The Bulldogs end the Roadrunners' two-game win streak with goals from Julia Glaser, Peyton Cline and Myra Delgadillo.
Fresno State improves to 2-2-1 on the season, and 1-1 at home.
"We are happy that we played well on both sides of the ball," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "Getting a shutout tonight came down to the defense working together. We focused on defending at the midfield to keep the ball on our side of the field, I think we did a good job of that in the second half. We put an emphasis on finishing possessions because we didn't want to give CSUB the opportunity to make it a close game, they are a good team coming off of two overtime wins. Tonight was another great team win for us."
Marina Kerrache, Megan Amick, Julia Glaser, Myra Delgadillo, Peyton Cline, Kaitlyn Crooker, Anna Crawford, Carly Bracken, Kayla Calmes and Angie Weiner led the charge for the Bulldogs, with Nicole Theroux in the box.
FIRST HALF – Both teams came out strong on offense to start the match. The Bulldogs recorded the first corner kick of the match in the eighth minute. Myra Delgadillo took the first shot of the match with a header that missed wide. CSUB responded with a shot on goal that was saved by Nicole Theroux in the 13th minute. CSUB took another shot that went high in the 16th minute.
Fresno State put the first dent in the scoreboard when Julia Glaser headed the ball in off an assist from Angie Weiner, putting the 'Dogs up 1-0 in the 17th minute.
Kaitlyn Crooker went right back at the Roadrunners goalie with a shot on goal in the 19th minute. CSUB tried to even out the score when Eszter Toth took a shot, but Nicole Theroux grabbed her second save of the night to keep the Roadrunners scoreless.
CSUB recorded one more shot on goal in the half, when Michele Day attempted to even out the score once again but Nicole Theroux logged her third save of the contest.
AT THE HALF – The 'Dogs took a 1-0 lead into the half. Fresno State owned the advantage in shots (6-5), corner kicks (2-0) and saves (3-0). CSUB took more shots on goal in the first half (2-1).
SECOND HALF – Peyton Cline came out strong on offense for the 'Dogs. Cline took the first shot on goal in the half in the 47th minute. In the 48th minute of play, Ele Avery saved the ball from going out of bounds by heading it to Julia Glaser. Julia Glaser passed the ball ahead to Myra Delgadillo who was sprinting toward the goal. Myra Delgadillo caught up the pass right before it went out of bounds at the baseline and passed it behind her to Peyton Cline. Peyton Cline shot and scored Fresno State's second goal of the match, putting the 'Dogs up 2-0.
The 'Dogs locked in the win when Myra Delgadillo scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Maria Gomez. Fresno State took a 3-0 lead over CSUB in the 62nd minute.
The 'Dogs finished the contest with the advantage in shots (12-7), saves (32) and corner kicks 2-1.
Fresno State had a well-balanced offense with seven 'Dogs recording shots during the match and all three goals logging assists.
