'Dogs host Aggies in Thursday night contest

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team will host UC Davis in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. PT.
The Bulldogs will take the field on Thursday with a 2-2-1 record.
Fresno State Athletics will celebrate Bike Night on Thursday. Fans who ride their bike to the match will receive a free Fresno State Bulldog Decals (a bike rack will be available for use). In addition to the t-shirt toss at halftime, a bike pump, hydration pack and bike lock will be given away.Â

Last Time – Fresno State defeated UC Davis 1-0 on Sept. 4, 2016 in Davis, Calif. Julia Glaser led the Bulldogs to victory with a goal in the 89th minute of play.
The last time the two squads met in Fresno, Calif. was on Sept. 12, 2010, when UC Davis earned a 3-2 victory over Fresno State.
The Aggies own the all-time record between the two teams 4-2.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
UC Davis is 1-5 this season, and 0-2 on the road.
The Aggies have racked up more saves than their opponents 41-19. UC Davis' opponents this season has owned the advantage in goals (9-4), shots (105-45) and corners (28-26).
On the attack, 14 Aggies have recorded shots this season, two have scored goals and two have logged assists.
Mandy McKeegan leads the Aggies' offense with two goals, one assist, five points and four shots this season.

The Aggies grabbed their first win of the season against San Francisco, with goals from McKeegan and Mahlah Catline. The Aggies suffered their fourth one-goal loss this season against UNLV. UC Davis' lone goal against the Rebels was scored by Catline for her second goal in as many matches.
Last season – UC Davis finished the 2016 season with a 7-8-4 (3-3-2) record. The Aggies finished fifth in the Big West conference, narrowly missing out on advancing to the Big West Tournament.Â

At CSUN, Kaitlyn Crooker scored her first collegiate goal as a Bulldog to put Fresno State up 1-0 in the 15th minute. The Matadors scored the tying goal in the 56th minute. Goalkeeper Nicole Theroux saved a penalty kick to send the game into overtime. The match ended after 110 minutes of play tied 1-1. Crooker led the offense with a team-high three shots, two shots on goal and one goal. Theroux recorded four saves during the contest. CSUN owned the advantage in shots (16-8) and corner kicks (11-4).
Against CSU Bakersfield, Fresno State jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Julia Glaser found the back of the net in the 17th minute. Peyton Cline and Myra Delgadillo scored a goal each to round out scoring for the Bulldogs. Seven Bulldogs record shots during the contest. Nicole Theroux recorded three saves on the night to complete the shutout. Fresno State led in shots (12-1) and corner kicks (2-1).
In terms of the Mountain West – Fresno State ranks second in the MW in goals (9), goals per game (1.80), assists (10), assists per game (2) and points (28). The Bulldogs rank third in the conference for most shutouts with two.

Underclassmen are proving to be contributors – Five underclassmen in Tori Nicolo, Megan Amick, Julia Glaser, Sydni Lunt, Ele Avery and Melissa Ellis have been rotated into the starting lineup at some point this season.
Nicolo, Amick and Ellis made their first collegiate starts as Bulldogs in Fresno State's road win against Pacific on Aug. 18.
Ele Avery made her first collegiate appearance in Fresno State's road win against Pacific on Aug. 18. She made her first collegiate start on Aug. 26 against Sacramento State. The freshman has subbed in during all games this season. Avery recorded her first collegiate assist on Aug. 18 against Pacific. Avery leads the Bulldogs in assists this season with two. The forward also recorded her first collegiate shot on Aug. 18 against Pacific.

'Dogs have experience – With only two seniors last season, Fresno State returns 15 letter winners and 10 starters. Bulldogs add six newcomers their 2017 roster.
On offense, Fresno State returns Myra Delgadillo, Julia Glaser, Peyton Cline and Alyssa Nishikawa. The foursome combined for 68 percent (19-28) of the teams' goals last season and 55 percent of the Bulldogs' assists (12-22). Delgadillo was named to the 2016 All-MW Second-Team. Delgadillo's team-leading nine goals and eight assists ranked second in the MW. Glaser was named to the 2016 MW Newcomer Team. Glaser recorded the second-most goals for the Bulldogs with six, the most for a Bulldog freshman since 2002. Cline was third on the team with four goals and Nishikawa added three assists.
On defense, the Bulldogs return their leading foursome in Sarah Jo Ciapponi, Anna Crawford, Alissa Pham and Olivia Muhrbeck. The 2016 defense allowed the fewest shots in Fresno State history.
In the box, Fresno State returns all three goalkeepers. Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann, Nicole Theroux and Alex Best split time in front of the net during the 2016 season.
Mountain West preseason poll – Fresno State was picked to finish sixth in the Mountain West regular season. The 12 MW women's soccer head coaches chose four-time regular season champion San Diego State as the preseason favorite to win the 2017 MW regular-season title.
Last season - In 2016, Fresno State tied for seventh in the MW narrowly missing the conference tournament by two points. The Bulldogs 5-5-1 conference record and seventh place finish was the best finish since the 2013.Â
