The freshman logged 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go along with a season-high 12 rebounds.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State evened up its season series with Nevada on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center with a 68-55 win. The Wolf Pack held a 3-point lead after the first, but the 'Dogs would outscore Nevada by 16 the rest of the way as the Bulldogs' defense was instrumental in the victory, holding the opposition to 33.3 percent from the field overall and 25 percent from behind the arc.
The 'Dogs got significant production from its freshmen duo inside as Genna Ogier and Maddi Utti each scored 14 points. To go with the season-high in scoring, Ogier also had a season-high 12 rebounds to earn the first double-double of her young career. Utti recorded season highs in assists (6) and steals (4). Junior guard Candice White paced the team with 17 points, pouring in 13 during the second half. The Wolf Pack were led by post players Teige Zeller (18 points, 11 rebounds) and AJ Cephas (11 points, 10 rebounds).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State struggled out of the gate on offense as the Bulldogs shot 6-of-18 from the field in the first quarter and didn't hit on any of their four 3-point attempts. Nevada was efficient in the opening frame, pouring in 6-of-12 from the floor, connecting on 3-of-5 from 3, as the Wolf Pack took a 15-12 lead after one.
The 'Dogs owned the second quarter by containing Nevada's offense, limiting the Wolf Pack to only 35.7 percent shooting and 10 points in the period. While Fresno State shot 9-of-21 in the second, they put up seven more field goal attempts than Nevada. The effort began early in the quarter as the Bulldogs opened with a 10-2 run to retake the lead after back-to-back layups from Ogier.
Nevada retook the lead with a 6-0 spurt but Fresno State countered with their own. The Bulldogs flourished from the inside in the first half as they outscored the Wolf Pack 24-8 in the paint and took a 30-26 advantage into the locker room.
Fresno State's offense was clicking on all cylinders in the third. After Nevada opened the quarter with a free throw, the 'Dogs hit the Wolf Pack with an 18-2 run in less than five minutes that saw four Bulldog starters score as they took a 48-29 lead with 5:07 on the clock. Fresno State went 9-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, in the period while holding Nevada to 16 points on only 33 percent shooting. The 'Dogs took a 54-42 lead into the fourth.
The 12-point deficit was too much for Nevada to overcome as Fresno State shot 5-of-11 made 4-of-4 from the free-throw line to coast to a 68-55 victory over the Wolf Pack for its fourth win in the last five games.

QUOTES
Head Coach Jaime White on points in the paint tonight…
"Genna Ogier had a big night in the paint tonight. She had big rebounds, she had great position and grabbed those rebounds early. I think that really helped us to get out on a good start."
On facing Wyoming on Saturday…
"Game after the game, the girls are ready. I think we will have some confidence going into that game. We are going to keep the ball rolling. I think we didn't shoot that well from the 3-point line tonight, but I definitely think that Nevada did a good job at stopping that so we attacked the paint. Wyoming brings a whole different deal. They are a five-out, everybody on their team shoots 3's and they are probably one of the better defensive teams in the league. We are going to have our work cut out for us. It is always going to be a good game with Wyoming."
Freshman forward Genna Ogier on her career-high game…
"It was nice to get some rebounds and get some points. I think we played really well as a team tonight so that was good to toss it around. It was fun."
On playing with fellow freshman Maddi Utti…
"It is awesome! I love playing with Maddi, she is such an awesome athlete. She really found people tonight and she was scoring so she had a great game."
On playing their third game in five games…
"I think we are just fighting through it and trying to play to the best of our ability."
On facing Wyoming on Saturday…
"We have been playing well and I am excited to play them. It is going to be a good challenge and hopefully we get the win."
