No. 5 Fresno State to face No. 4 San Jose State in the MW Championship quarterfinals

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team is set to start its quest for a Mountain West Championship, the No. 5 Bulldogs will face No. 4 San Jose State in the quarterfinals of the MW Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. PT at San Jose State's Spartan Soccer Field.
The MW Championship is a six-team tournament, single elimination tournament, which begins Oct. 30 and runs through Nov. 3.
How to follow – All five matches will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network and Facebook. Live stats for each match will also be available on the 2018 MW Women's Soccer Championship Central page. Fans can also check Twitter @FresnoStateWSOC for live updates throughout the match.
The bracket – #1 Boise State and #2 Wyoming will receive first round byes as the top two seeds of the tournament. #3 New Mexico is slated to face #6 Colorado College in the first quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. PT. Followed by the second quarterfinal match of #4 San Jose State and #5 Fresno State at 7 p.m. PT.
The winner of the #3/#6 quarterfinal will face #2 Wyoming in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. PT. The winner of the #4/#5 will see #1 Boise State in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. PT.
The championship match will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. PT.

Fresno State finished the regular season with an overall record of 6-9-4 (5-3-3 MW).
Game Notes:
On offense, Emma Chivers leads the 'Dogs with five goals. Tori Nicolo has also been a big contributor on offense, chalking four goals. On defense, Robyn McCarthy has logged the most time on the field with a team-high 1,676 minutes. Goalkeeper Nicole Theroux has recorded 71 saves, a .816 save percentage and a 1.02 goals against average.
The Bulldogs were picked to finish sixth in the 2018 Mountain West preseason coaches' poll. Fresno State returned 11 letterwinners and four starters, including 2015 All-MW Second Team honoree Maria Gomez. Nicole Theroux will also return to the goal for Fresno State. Last season, Theroux started all 20 games as the Bulldogs' goalkeeper, grabbed 70 saves and recorded a 0.83 goals against average. The Bulldogs restocked their roster for the upcoming season with eight newcomers, six freshman and two transfers.
Last season – Fresno State finished with a 10-6-4 (5-4-2 MW) record. The Bulldogs had seven home wins in front of the Red Wave last season, the most since 2007 (7) and six losses for the Bulldogs were the fewest since 2011. Fresno State finished within the top half of the conference which ensured their spot in the 2017 Mountain West Championship Tournament, marking the first championship appearance since 2013, and increased its win total for the fourth consecutive season. Fresno State fell in an exhilarating quarterfinal match of the 2017 Mountain West Women's Soccer Tournament to New Mexico in sudden death penalty kicks. On the season, the Bulldogs outscored their opponents 32-19 and outshot their opponents 230-199.
