Fresno State gears up for UCSB Classic

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team will send four players to the UCSB Classic to compete Oct. 6 through Oct. 7. Angus Bradshaw, Zdenek Derkas, Henrique Osorio and Patrik Pech will make the trip for the Bulldogs, they will compete in both singles and doubles over the weekend.

The field features players from Cal, Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount, Oregon, Stanford, UC Davis, UCLA and Washington.

SINGLES
The classic will have four singles flights, 16 players in each flight.

A Flight (First Round)
Zdenek Derkas (Fresno State) vs. Dominic Barretto (Cal)

B Flight (First Round)
Angus Bradshaw (Fresno State) vs. Joseph Rotheram (UCSB)
Henrique Osorio (Fresno State) vs. Alexis Alvarez (Washington)

C Flight (First Round)
Patrik Pech (Fresno State) vs. Alex Stater (Cal Poly)

DOUBLES
The classic will have three doubles flights, eight doubles teams per flight.

Bradshaw/Osorio (Fresno State) vs. Soemamo/Roberts (Oregon)

Flight B (First Round)
Pech/Derkas (Fresno State) vs. Nakayama/Vardanyan (Cal Poly)

Player Notes:
Angus Bradshaw

This is Angus' first season with Fresno State, transferred from Stetson.
At Stetson, he finished the 2018 season with a 14-6 overall singles record, playing at multiple singles positions for the Hatters. He finished the season with a 15-5 overall doubles record, playing primarily at the No. 2 position. Bradshaw helped lead the Hatters to a conference tournament final, and earned ASUN All-Conference Doubles Second-Team honors.

Zdenek Derkas

Derkas is 2-2 this fall.
Derkas started the 2018 fall season representing the Mountain West in the Oracle ITA Masters.
Derkas had an impressive 2017-18 season. He finished the season with a team-best 28-8 (7-0 MW) overall singles record, playing primarily at the No. 3 position. The Czech Republic native clinched four matches for Fresno State during conference play and posted a win over No. 62 Ferran Calvo (Oklahoma). He finished the season with a 15-13 doubles record. Derkas was named to the 2018 All-Mountain West Singles Team, and was the team's 2018 MVP.
In 2017, Derkas was the first Bulldog in program history to be named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year.

Henrique Osorio

Henrique is 1-1 this fall.
Osorio finished the 2017-18 season with an overall singles record of 20-10.

Patrik Pech

This is Pech's first competition of the fall.
Pech utilized his red shirt year last season.
Pech finished the 2015-16 season with an overall record of 6-4, and logged an overall doubles record of 14-13. He was named to the 2016 All-Mountain West Doubles Team.

Tournament Notes:

Fresno State is competing in the UCSB Classic for the fifth consecutive season.
Cem Erturk and Cagatay Soke each took home a singles title from the UCSB Classic in 2017.
