The Bulldogs will host a pair of fall exhibition scrimmages this fall facing San Joaquin Delta Junior College on Nov. 4 followed by Santa Clara on Nov. 11. Both games will start at 1:00 p.m. with free admission and parking.
FRESNO, Calif. - With the temperature outside cooling down and fall ball underway, the Fresno State baseball team will host a pair of fall exhibition scrimmages at Bob Bennett Stadium in November.
This fall, NCAA rules permit Division I teams to play two exhibition scrimmages against outside competition that do not count against each team's 56-game limit in the spring. Prior to this year, teams were allowed to scrimmage outside competition in the fall, but they counted against their 56-game slate.
The Bulldogs will host San Joaquin Delta Junior College on Nov. 4 followed by Santa Clara on Nov. 11. Both exhibition scrimmages will start at 1:00 p.m. with free admission and parking.
The matchup with San Joaquin Delta Junior College, a community college in Stockton, will give the 'Dogs a look at the 2018 California Community College Athletic Association state champions. The Mustangs went 43-9 overall last season with a 9-3 record in the postseason ending with a best-of-three series win over Sacramento City that saw Delta win game three of the series, 7-5.
Santa Clara is coming off a 26-26 overall record in 2018 with a 12-15 mark in the West Coast Conference, which tied them for sixth with Portland and San Diego, in the 10-team conference.Â
The 'Dogs opened fall practice last weekend and will host intrasquad scrimmages open to the public on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday over the next five weeks as they begin to prepare for the 2019 season.
"We are excited to get fall ball rolling and preparing for the 2019 season," said head coach Mike Batesole, who enters his 17th season at the helm of the Bulldog baseball program this spring.
Fresno State brings back 19 returners from 2018, including Second-Team All-Mountain West outfielder Zach Ashford, while adding the services of five redshirt freshman. The 'Dogs welcome 13 newcomers, including 12 true freshman, to the club this spring.
The Bulldogs enter their seventh season in the Mountain West this spring and are coming off their fourth consecutive 30-win season after finishing the 2018 season with a 30-24 overall record. The 'Dogs 132 wins over the last four seasons are second-most in the MW behind San Diego State (143) and their 70 MW wins are also second-most over that stretch trailing only Nevada (75).
The 'Dogs will release their 2019 schedule in December.
