FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's tennis head coach Luke Shields announced the signing of Daniel Baturyn, Thursday afternoon. Baturyn will join the Bulldogs for the 2019-20 season as a freshman, with four years of eligibility.
"We are happy to add Daniel. He is one of the best local talents that we have had at Fresno State in a while," Shields said. "He has an unorthodox style to his game that is challenging for opponents to play against. He has a high ceiling and if he continues to work he could be a special student-athlete. Daniel not only excels on the court but he's also a fantastic student. We look forward to him joining the Bulldog family!"Â
Baturyn is a five star recruit from San Leandro, Calif. He plays at Havailand Tennis Academy, and was ranked in the top 30 for his class according to tennisrecruiting.com.
Baturyn took third place in the NorCal 18s and 16s Junior Fall Singles Sectional Championship, in October.
"When choosing Fresno State, the most important things were the strength of the Bulldogs team and the high-level coaching. I feel that being surrounded by so many experienced tennis players and training hard in such good environment should help me elevate my game to the next level."
Baturyn is the first member of the 2019 signing class.
