LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State football team had an eventful second day in Las Vegas on Wednesday, leading up to the 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl that is now just three short days away. The Bulldogs started the day volunteering at Opportunity Village, had a midday practice and capped it off with the Fremont Street Experience Welcome Reception in downtown Las Vegas.
The team continues to manage a packed schedule of community service and events, while preparing to face Arizona State on Saturday. The Bulldogs have their sights set on their first Las Vegas Bowl win in their third trip in program history.
Wednesday started with a visit to Opportunity Village, a not-for-profit organization that serves adults in the southern Nevada community with intellectual and related disabilities to enhance their lives. Alex Cruz, Emoryie Edwards, Tainoa Foster and Netane Muti spent the morning engaging in the daily classes and activities offered at Opportunity Village while touring the amazing facility, providing an exceptional experience for the student-athletes. The four Bulldogs participated in art class, woodshop class, Zumba class and music class. Cruz and Muti took the opportunity to lead the Zumba class, and all four were able to participate in singing a new version of "Don't Stop Believing'" with the men and women of Opportunity Village.
"Today we were able to give back to the community and have an impact on the lives of the men and women at Opportunity Village," said Cruz.
The Bulldogs were joined by Arizona State players during the visit, allowing the two teams to unite and give back to the community before the bowl game.
"It makes you appreciate life more," said Muti. "When we walked in you could see their faces just light up, and that brought joy to me. I was happy to be here today!"Â
Following the visit to Opportunity Village, it was back to business with an afternoon practice.
After practice, the Fresno State football team went to Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas for the Welcome Reception to officially kickoff bowl week. Fresno State and Arizona State joined together under the lights to get a glimpse of the classic and legendary atmosphere of downtown. Players from both teams were treated to meal by Buca di Beppo and were able to showcase their talents off the football field participating in a friendly game of Family Feud.
The Bulldogs will continue bowl week on Thursday morning volunteering with the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, an organization that provides underprivileged children with the opportunity to pick shoes. The team will continue bowl preparation with an afternoon practice. The day will finish with an EA Sports competition for the student-athletes to participate in.
