Shields signs Stepanek for 2019-20

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's tennis head coach Luke Shields announced the signing of Antonin Stepanek, on Wednesday. Stepanek will join the team as a freshman with four years of eligibility.
"We are excited to have Antonin join us," Shields said. He is a very good player who has really blossomed this last year. He has an ATP world ranking in the top 1300. The biggest thing that stood out while recruiting him was how ambitious, yet humble he is. We have a long history of having excellent Czech student-athletes who have thrived at Fresno State. He has the potential to be one of the best players in college tennis. We look forward to working with him to accomplish his goals."
The Czech Republic native, has a career-high singles Association of Tennis Professionals of 1240 and a career-high double ATP ranking of 1068. He has success on the professional circuit, advancing to the doubles final of the Slovakia F3 Futures (August 2018), and advancing to the singles quarterfinal match of the Czech Republic F7 Futures (October 2018).
Stepanek is the second member of the Bulldogs' 2019 signing class. Shields' announced the signing of Daniel Baturyn earlier this fall.
