LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State football team wrapped up preparations for the 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl against Arizona State on Friday.
Â
To start the day, the Bulldogs gathered for one last walkthrough at the site of the Las Vegas Bowl, Sam Boyd Stadium, before returning to begin the last of the week's festivities.
Â
The Bulldogs began with a press conference at the Hard Rock Hotel. Head Coach Jeff Tedford, senior quarterback Marcus McMaryion and senior linebacker George Helmuth gathered alongside Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards, quarterback Manny Wilkins and running back Eno Benjamin. The group answered questions from a panel of both local and national media outlets for approximately 45 minutes.
Â
"We are honored and blessed to be at the Las Vegas Bowl representing the Mountain West Conference and our University," Tedford said during the press conference. "It is a great honor to be the champion of our league and it was very competitive all year long and every week there is a new challenge."
Â
A luncheon, also at the Hard Rock Hotel, followed featuring both teams and both marching bands as former Bulldog quarterback great and Super Bowl champion Trent Dilfer was the featured keynote speaker.
Â
"These were two of my favorite coaches to play for and I am honored to be here," Dilfer said of Tedford and Edwards, who he played for while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "I am a Bulldog. Bulldog born, Bulldog bred."
Â
In addition to Dilfer speaking, McMaryion was awarded with the Ray Woofter Community Leader Award presented by Dignity Health for being an active community service leader in the Fresno community.
Â
The evening wrapped up with a pep rally on the Fremont Street Experience First Stage as fans from both teams got excited for Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl with the marching band, cheerleaders and mascots all in attendance.
Â
The pep rally finished with a member of the cheerleading team, marching band and Timeout participating in a dance off as the Bulldogs earned an early win over the Sun Devils.
