- Fresno State won the 2018 Mountain West Championship, defeating Boise State in overtime on the road, 19-16. The Bulldogs are three-time MW champions in seven seasons as a league member.
- The 2018 Fresno State football team is seeking to become the first team in the 97-year history of the program to win 12 games in a season.
- Fresno State most recently had a chance to win 12 games in 2013. That team fell to USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, 45-20, in front of 42,178 in attendance.
- Fresno State last played Arizona State in 1941. The two programs had already planned to renew the series Sept. 16, 2023, a future game scheduled to be played at ASU.
- The Bulldogs have a chance to defeat two Pac-12 teams in one season. The last time Fresno State beat two Pac-12 teams in the same season was in 2003 (OSU/UCLA).
- Fresno State is 0-2 in Las Vegas Bowl games, having played in it in 1999 and 2013.
- This will be Jeff Tedford's second Las Vegas Bowl appearance having led Cal to a 35-28 win over Virginia Tech in 2005.
- Jeff Tedford was named an Eddie Robinson Award finalist on Dec. 5.
- Fresno State is seeking to finish the season ranked for the first time since 2004. The last time the Bulldogs were in the top 25 in the end of year poll was after capping the 2004 season with a 37-34 win over No. 18 Virginia at the MPC Computers Bowl in Boise.
- Fresno State sports the Mountain West's defensive player of the year - LB Jeff Allison.
- The 'Dogs had four All-MW first-team selections and six All-MW second-team selections.
