SAN ANTONIO, Texas – On the first of four days of competition at the 2018 Mountain West Championship, Fresno State broke program records in both the 200 Medley Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay on Wednesday night in San Antonio.

At the end of the first day of competition the Bulldogs sit in 8th place. San Diego State and Nevada are tied for the lead with just three events completed and 18 more to go over the next three days.

Swimming Highlights
- The Bulldogs opened the meet with a bang in breaking the program record in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of Ugne Mazutaityte (Backstroke), Manuela Mendolicchio (Breaststroke), Zofia Niemczak (Butterfly), and Osianna McRreed (Freestyle) touched in 1:41.41. That time broke the previous school record time of 1:41.88, set during the 2012-2013 season.
- In the only other swimming event on Wednesday, the 800 Freestyle Relay, Niemczak, Mazutaityte, Emily Cutler, and Katelin Britton posted a program-record time of 7:21.65, finishing second in their heat and in eighth place overall. Niemczak was less than a second behind the 200 Free program record while the previous 800 Free Relay program record, set during the 2014-15 season, was 7:22.34.
- The only individual event on Wednesday was the 1-meter diving competition.
- Irina Nikolaeva placed seventh among 37 divers in the prelims with a score of 269.97 to qualify for the final. Serena Sedillo scored 223.74 and Kelli Funk had a 208.23 score.
- In the 1-meter final, Nikolaeva scored 262.56 to finish the event in 8th place.

What's Next
- The second day of competition has four individual events (3-meter diving, 500 Free, 200 IM, and 50 Free) as well as the 200 Free Relay. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. Pacific time and finals get underway at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
