Fresno State plays host to Azusa Pacific on Friday afternoon

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State water polo is back at home to face off against conference opponent Azusa Pacific on Friday, March 16 at 3:30 p.m. PT. The Bulldogs will look to use the positive momentum gained from a strong showing at last weekend's ASU Invitational, as they are searching for their first-ever Golden Coast Conference victory after dropping their opener to Loyola Marymount back on March 3.
"Last weekend was good for our confidence and experience at this stage of our season, and we are motivated to return to conference play," head coach Natalie Benson said. "APU has been playing well this season, and we will need to bring our full effort to the match."
BULLDOG BREAKDOWN
-The Bulldogs won their third game of the season in Tempe, Ariz. as they downed Pomona-Pitzer 7-6.
-Sydney Coachman led Fresno State in points at the ASU Invitational with seven. Coachman had a goal and two assists in the win over Pomona-Pitzer and a goal to go along with one assist against both Arizona State and Indiana.
-Callie Woodruff still leads the 'Dogs in points this season as she has scored a team-high 24 goals and dished out four assists.
-Woodruff had a stellar game against Pomona-Pitzer. The Baytown, Texas native tallied two goals, two assists and five steals.
-Natalie Espinoza logged goals against Arizona State and Indiana. Espinoza has now scored in seven out of eight games played this season.
-Madelynn Garcia played her best game in the cage to date against Indiana. The lone Bulldog sophomore snagged 10 saves and swiped a steal.

THE MATCHUP
Friday, March 16 vs. Azusa Pacific – 3:30 p.m. PT
The Cougars come into the week with an 11-9 overall record on the season, and have won three out of their last four. Out of APU's 11 victories, none have come against teams currently residing in the Top 25. And in looking at Azusa Pacific's nine defeats, seven have come at the hands of squads in the Top 25. The Cougars average 9.4 goals per game and are led on offense by Britt Harris. Harris has scored a team-high 36 goals and leads the team in points with 48. Behind Harris, APU has five other players who have scored 20-plus goals this season to help shoulder the offensive load. Defensively, Azusa Pacific is anchored by goalie Erica Marquez. The senior keeper has 127 saves and a 7.83 GAA this season.
