No. 24 Fresno State returns home to face No. 12 Loyola Marymount in Golden Coast Conference opener

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State water polo is back at home on Saturday to open conference play against Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs come into the contest having lost their last three games, as they will look to get back in the win column against the talented Lions and tally their second victory against a ranked opponent this season.
"We are excited to begin conference play at home, and want to see how far we have come since our last competition," head coach Natalie Benson said. "We have had a bit of time to iron out some details, and work on some smaller aspects of the game that are so important to converting the opportunities that we have had thus far this season."Â
BULLDOG BREAKDOWN
-Callie Woodruff leads Fresno State in goals (20) and total points (22).
-Claire Schade and Emily Nicholson rank second on the team in goals scored with 12 apiece.
-Schade is second on the team in total points with 20, having dished out a team-high eight assists thus far in addition to her 12 goals scored. She has also swiped a team-high 11 steals.
-Nicholson leads the 'Dogs in drawn exclusions with 16, eight more than Callie Woodruff's eight, which ranks second on the team.
-Madelynn Garcia has solidified herself as the starter in the cage for the Bulldogs. The sophomore keeper has logged 50 saves in eight games, which includes six starts.
THE MATCHUP
Saturday, March 3: vs. No. 12 Loyola Marymount – 1 p.m. PT
The Lions are currently sitting at 9-10 on the season and have gone 5-3 in their last eight games. LMU won three out of four at the Triton Invitational back on Feb. 10-11 and went 2-2 at the UC Irvine Invitational last weekend. Loyola Marymount's nine wins are headlined by victories over Indiana and UC Santa Barbara (twice). Nine out of the Lions' 10 losses have come at the hands of teams currently ranked in the Top 10.
