Bulldogs head to Utah for two matches

Fresno State has faced Utah and BYU in each of the last two seasons.

The Bulldogs return to action this weekend for two matches in Utah. Fresno State will face Utah on Friday afternoon in Salt Lake City and travel to Provo the following day for a matchup with BYU. Both teams came to Fresno last season with the Bulldogs coming out on top in both matches. The 'Dogs split on their Utah road trip in 2016.

Bulldogs at a glance:
The Bulldogs are 4-10 on the year after splitting a pair of neutral site matches last weekend in Southern California. The 'Dogs are 0-4 in true road matches this season but all three have come against nationally ranked opponents, two who were in the top 10. Seven of the Bulldogs' 10 losses have come to ranked opponents as they have faced one of their toughest schedules during head coach Ryan Stotland's tenure at Fresno State.Â
Georgia Lawson and Emma Wilson remain the top-ranked doubles team in the Mountain West as the two sit at No. 36. The pair is 6-5 during the dual season. Wilson leads the team in singles matches during the dual season with a 7-5 record, 6-4 while at the No. 1 position. She is 1-3 against ranked opponents.
Looking at the opponents:
Utah enters Friday's match with an 8-6 record and is coming off of a 7-0 loss to No. 45 Cal. The Utes have won one of their last six matches. Taylor Calton leads the team during the dual season with a 7-5 record, posting a 4-1 record at the No. 5 spot.
BYU sits at 8-4 and are riding a four-match winning streak. The Cougars have played four Mountain West opponents this season, defeating San Diego State, Boise State, New Mexico and Utah State by a combined 20-4. BYU has five players with at least five wins during the dual season, including Polina Malykh who is 7-0 while playing in multiple positions at the backend of the lineup.

Fresno State returns home to host its final non-conference match of the regular season as Eastern Washington comes to Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center on March 28. Match time is set for 6 p.m. PT.
