Thibault’s 70 headlines Bulldogs’ first round at the PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. – Freshman Brigitte Thibault led the Fresno State women's golf team on Friday shooting a 2-under-par 70 at the PING/ASU Invitational. She is tied for sixth place out of 81 individuals.
"Fantastic start today," said head coach Emily Loftin of Thibault. "It was great to see Brigitte come out of the gate with a solid first round. She's been working hard and I love seeing the fruits of her hard work on the leaderboard.
"The team started off slow this morning, but we made some good adjustments and had a good finish. Tomorrow I am looking to get off to a faster start and take advantage of having another round on this course under our belt."
Thibault was 1-over-par after her first nine holes and proceeded to go 3-under-par, firing three birdies and six pars to close Friday's round. Thibault led the team with five birdies, which included carding birdies on three of the four par 5's.
Junior Kelsi Stieler is tied for 14th place after one round. She shot her second par or better round this season with an even-par 72. Stieler was 1-under-par after her first five holes, tallied three-straight bogeys, and then responded with eight pars and two birdies over the final 10 holes.
Stieler, who is playing as an individual this weekend, leads the group of 11 unattached participants at the event for the lowest score.
The 'Dogs No. 1, Mimi Ho, is four strokes behind Thibault and two strokes off Stieler. The senior carded a 2-over-par 74 going even-par on the front-nine and 2-over-par on the back-nine.
Trailing the Bulldogs' top three opening round scores were teammates Alison Muirhead (76), Samantha Spencer (80) and Dominika Gradecka (81). Muirhead is tied for 46th, Spencer is tied for 71st and Gradecka is tied for 73rd.
As a team, Fresno State is in 11th place of the 14 teams in action.
The second round will get underway starting at 8 a.m. PT on Saturday with tee times off of No. 1 and No. 10. The Bulldogs are scheduled to start off of tee No. 10 with 9-minute intervals beginning with Gradecka at 8 a.m.
