Moore's career-high seven innings push Diamond 'Dogs past Highlanders, 11-5

Behind a career-high 7.0 innings from sophomore right-hander Davis Moore, the Diamond 'Dogs used solid pitching and explosive offense to defeat UC Riverside, 11-5 on Tuesday night at Bob Bennett Stadium.
FRESNO, Calif. - Behind a career-high 7.0 innings from sophomore right-hander Davis Moore, the Diamond 'Dogs used solid pitching and explosive offense to defeat UC Riverside, 11-5 on Tuesday night at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Fresno State (14-10) tallied 14 hits in the game as five 'Dogs had two hits apiece, including five doubles and the first career home run by junior shortstop Nolan Dempsey.
Four 'Dogs scored multiple runs, including a career-high three by junior second baseman Jeremiah Burks as Zach Ashford, Carter Bins and Dempsey all scored two runs apiece.
On the mound, Moore tossed seven innings allowing six hits, three runs, one earned, while tying his career-high with seven strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season. Freshman southpaws Jaime Arias and Tiegen Jones each tossed one inning apiece to close out the ga,me.
How It Happened
After scoring seven runs over the final two innings on Sunday, the 'Dogs kept the hot offense going on Tuesday jumping on the board with a three-run bottom of first as Bins drove in the first run with a double through the left side to score Ashford who led off the frame with a ground-rule double. A hard-hit single by Zach Presno drove in Bins and Burks to put the 'Dogs up 3-0.
The Bulldogs added two runs in the bottom of the second as Dempsey led off with a solo home run to left field followed by a sacrifice bunt by Bins that drove in Burks from third.
UC Riverside (10-10) broke up Moore's shutout bid in the top of the fourth scoring a pair of unearned runs after Bulldog right fielder Miles Tomczak dropped a fly ball in right field allowing one run to score and added another run on a single to right fielder Matt Hardy.
The 'Dogs answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame as redshirt freshman third baseman JT Arruda laced a two-out single to left field to drive home Burks and Dempsey from second and third base.
Leading 7-2 after four innings, the Higlanders cut the 'Dogs lead to four with a solo home run by designated hitter Connor Cannon in the top of the sixth.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the sixth as Bins scored on a wild pitch and Arruda added a run on a single to left field by Presno.
After the Highlanders changed pitchers to right-hander AJ Sawyer, Bins greeted the new pitcher with a single to right-center to drive home Nate Thimjon and Ashford giving the 'Dogs their final score of the night and a 11-3 lead.
UCR tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run home run by Hardy, but Jones got Cody Sporrer to pop up to third to seal the 'Dogs win.

- The 'Dogs now lead the all-time series with the Highlander, 4-3 and have won three straight meetings.
