Diamond 'Dogs routed by Dirtbags, 24-10

The Diamond 'Dogs dropped their series opener to Long Beach State, 24-10 on Thursday night at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Fresno State (14-11) smacked out 15 hits as junior center fielder Zach Ashford led the way with a career-high four RBIs while hitting his first home run of the season with a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh.
Junior left fielder Nolan Dempsey had a career-high three hits, including his first career double, while driving in two RBIs and scored two runs while redshirt senior Nick Warren matched his career high with three hits while scoring a career-best three runs.
Zack Presno, JT Arruda, Nick Warren and Jeremiah Burks each had two hits apiece as Burks drove in an RBI and scored a pair of runs.
The Dirtbags jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first scoring three runs and kept the scoring going followed by one run in the second before adding six more in the fourth put the Dirtbags ahead 10-0.
After Ashford advanced all the way to third in the bottom of the fourth, the Dirtbags tacked on four more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 14-0 lead before the 'Dogs found the offense scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The 'Dogs got their four-run frame started with a single back up the middle by Warren that drove in Presno from second. Dempsey added his first career two-bag base hit to left field lacing a ball to left field to drive in Warren from second.
Ashford added a one-out single back up the middle to score senior shortstop Korby Batesole and Burks who reached base on a hit by pitch and single, respectively.
The Dirtbags added eight runs in the top of the sixth and one more run in the seventh to extend its lead to 23-4. Ashford's two-run shot made it 23-6 before the 'Dogs added two runs on RBIs by Burks and Torin Goldstein in the eighth and tacked on two more runs in the ninth by Eddie Pena and Warren.
