Aggies outrun 'Dogs, 12-11

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought 12-11 loss to UC Davis, Wednesday night. Goalkeeper Laurel Maunder had a career-high night with 19 saves.
Fresno State falls to 9-6 on the season.
"We played well today, we just need to finish opportunities on both ends of the field," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "I'm extremely proud of Laurel, with 19 saves she was the backbone of our defense. She put us in a position to have an opportunity to win this game. We are going to take this loss and grow from it. UC Davis is a good team and we look forward to facing them again next week."
Marina Mayo, Tiffiny Wallace, Sarah Bloise and Mackenzie Wallevand scored two goals each. Kayla Galet, Ryleigh Bone and Lauren Kiszely scored one goal apiece to round out scoring for the Bulldogs.
FIRST HALF
Mayo, Wallace, Bloise, Wallevand, Galet, Bone, Hannah Krats, Angela Saladino, Abigail Bergevin, Lindsay Hobson and Kennedy Mulvaney chalked the start for the Bulldogs, with Laurel Maunder in the goal.
Fresno State opened up the game on a 3-0 run over the first 10 minutes of the match. Maunder recorded three saves to hold the Aggies scoreless over the first 10 minutes.
UC Davis returned the favor with a 3-0 run of its own, tying the game 3-3 with 8:52 left in the half.
Wallace retook the lead for the Bulldogs, scoring with eight minutes left in the half. UC Davis responded with a goal of its own, tying the game 4-4.
Wallace and Bloise would combine to spark another 3-0 run for the Bulldogs, taking a 7-4 lead with 4:47 left in the half.
UC Davis scored a goal to close the half. Fresno State lead 7-5 at halftime. Maunder recorded 14 saves in the first half.
SECOND HALF
The Bulldogs had the momentum on their side to start the half, scoring back-to-back goals. Fresno State had a 9-6 lead with 18:51 left in the game.
UC Davis went on a 5-0 run to take an 11-9 lead with 8:33 left in the game.
Bloise made it a one-goal game, scoring with 4:34 left in the contest. UC Davis scored again with 3:48 left in regulation, 12-10.
Wallevand scored with 1:48 left in the game, putting the Bulldogs within one. Wallevand grabbed the draw control for the Bulldogs, trying to tie the contest. The Bulldogs took a free position with 59 seconds left in the game, but missed high. The clock would expire with the Aggies leading by one.
NOTABLE STATS
Fresno State owned the advantage in draw controls (14-11) and saves (19-11). UC Davis recorded more shots (38-27) and ground balls (26-17).
