'Dogs fall in battle against Aztecs, 15-11

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team fell to San Diego State 15-11, on Senior Day. The team celebrated seven seniors in Natalie Chaffin, Ellie Galindo, Abigail Bergevin, Lindsay Hobson, Naydy Hernandez, Nicole Ortlieb and Logan Eisinger.
"This class has been paramount in the growth of Fresno State Lacrosse and the program's successes," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "They have been integral in making Fresno in to a winning program and that should be celebrated. They have become true friends and teammates to each other and have been one of the closest classes I've ever had the privilege of coaching they will be missed!"
Fresno State falls to 9-7 (0-1 MPSF) on the season.
Kayla Galet led the Bulldogs with a hat trick in the conference. Tiffiny Wallace and Nicole Ortlieb both had two goals apiece. Sarah Bloise, Marina Mayo, Mackenzie Wallevand, Nicole Ortlieb and Hannah Krats all chalked a goal on the day, rounding out scoring for Fresno State.
FIRST HALF
Galet, Wallace, Ortlieb, Bloise, Mayo, Wallevand, Ortlieb, Krats, Lindsay Hobson, Ryeligh Bone, Angela Saladino, Abigail Bergevin and Kennedy Mulvaney recorded the start for the Bulldogs, with Laurel Maunder in the goal.
SDSU started the game with a 3-0 run over the first three minutes of the game. Ortlieb put Fresno State on the scoreboard, scoring with 26:32 left in the half.
The Aztecs extended their lead to 5-1 with back-to-back goals, 21:42 left in the half. Wallevand scored on a free position, making it a 5-2 game. SDSU went on a 4-0 run to take its largest lead of the game, 9-2 with 10:01 left in the half.
Senior goalkeeper Natalie Chaffin checked in with 12 minutes left in the first half and finished the game for the Bulldogs in the goal.
Krats and Galet scored back-to-back goals to make it a five-goal game. SDSU would score with two seconds left in the half, putting the Aztecs up 10-4 at the half.
SECOND HALF
Fresno State started the second half with a spark on offense, opening the half with a four-goal run. The Bulldogs cut the Aztec's lead to two goals, 10-8. SDSU stopped the run, scoring with 18:51 left in the half.
Galet headed a 3-0 run for Fresno State, tying the game 11-11 with 11:21 left in the game.
SDSU held Fresno State off, scoring four consecutive goals to finish the contest.
NOTABLE STATS
SDSU owned the advantage in shots (36-34) and draw controls (16-11). Fresno State grabbed more ground balls (30-32). Both teams recorded 14 saves.
