Fresno State concludes regular season at No. 22 Cal Baptist

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State water polo returns to Southern California for the second time this month to clash with conference foe No. 22 Cal Baptist on Saturday, April 21 at 12 p.m. PT. The matchup will mark the final game of the regular season for the Bulldogs as they will look to gather some momentum heading into next weekend's Golden Coast Conference Championships at Loyola Marymount.
"It's hard to believe that we are approaching the last game of the regular season," head coach Natalie Benson said. "We look forward to our opportunity to close it out on a high note this weekend at Cal Baptist."
BULLDOG NOTES
-Fresno State comes into the week with a 5-16 overall record with a 2-4 mark in conference play. The Bulldogs' last victory came over Concordia at home a couple of weeks ago when they won in convincing fashion, 14-7.
-The 'Dogs will be looking for their second win of the season over a ranked opponent. They topped No. 21 CSUN in their second game of the season back on Jan. 20 during the UCSB Gaucho Invitational.
-Callie Woodruff continues to be the leading offensive force for the 'Dogs. She leads the team in goals (37) and points (45). Woodruff also paces Fresno State in steals with 19 on the season.
-Emily Nicholson has also had a stellar freshman campaign. The Auckland, New Zealand native has poured in 25 goals, tallied 31 points and swiped 17 steals, all ranking second on the team. She paces the Bulldogs in drawn exclusions with 35.
-Claire Schade is third on the team in points with 29. Schade has scored 13 goals and dished out a team-high 16 assists. Sydney Coachman is the only other player with double-digit assists (11) this season.
-Natalie Espinoza has been a surprise offensive factor this season. She has scored 13 goals in only 14 games played. She is one of eight 'Dogs with 10-plus goals.
-Among the players with double-digit scores, Emily Nicholson owns the highest shooting percentage at 41 percent.
-Madelynn Garcia leads Fresno State with 13 games started in the cage. The sophomore goalie has logged 102 saves in 386 minutes played and owns an 11.69 Goals Against Average.

THE MATCHUP
Saturday, April 21 at No. 22 Cal Baptist – 12 p.m. PT
The Lancers are sitting right at .500 with a 15-15 overall record. CBU owns a 3-3 mark in GCC play, winning games over Santa Clara, Azusa Pacific and Concordia. Cal Baptist has three victories over ranked opponents in Brown, Bucknell and Marist. The Lancers have also played a couple top-tier opponents very competitively. They lost 10-9 to No. 9 UC Davis, 8-6 to No. 10 Princeton and 6-5 to No. 15 Loyola Marymount. CBU is led on offense by Kira O'Donnell, whose 51 goals ranks third in the Golden Coast Conference. O'Donnell also ranks third in points in the conference. Cal Baptist also possesses three of the top five assist leaders in Annie Eubanks (1st, 34 assists), Lizette Perez (2nd, 33 assists) and Allie Coleman (T-3rd, 32 assists). Eubanks also tops the conference in steals with 57. Grace Ramirez anchors the Lancer defense in the cage. She has started 22 games and has charted 208 saves, good for third in the conference.
