Bulldogs handed 14-4 setback by Air Force

The Bulldogs and Falcons play the third and final game of the weekend series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Salute to Services Weekend continues as all military and veterans get into the game for free and all kids are free to run the bases after the game.
Fresno State (25-17, 10-13 MW) tallied 11 hits in the contest as freshman right fielder Miles Tomczak had his ninth multi-hit game of the season while driving in a pair of runs. JT Arruda added a pair of singles and scored a run while Zach Ashford extended his on-base streak to 44 games with a seventh-inning walk and he also smacked his 15th double of the season.
On the mound, sophomore right-hander Ryan Jensen returned to the starting rotation tossing 4.0 innings allowing a career-high 12 hits, nine runs, eight earned while striking out five.
Five other Bulldogs saw action on the mound, including a season-high two innings from senior JJ Santa Cruz, as the Bulldog pitchers combined to toss 14 strikeouts which ties for the fourth-most this season in a single game. Santa Cruz struck out a career-best five batters.
How It Happened
Air Force (20-22, 11-11 MW) scored early and often in the contest building a 9-0 lead after three-and-half innings scoring four runs in the second, one in the third and four more in the fourth.
A two-out single through the right side by Tomczak scored Zach Presno and Arruda in the bottom of the fourth to break up the shutout, but the Falcons answered right back with two runs in the top of the fifth on a single and sacrifice fly. A three-run home run by Air Force first baseman Nic Ready in the eighth made the score 14-2.
Ready was one of seven Falcons to finish with multi-hit games as the junior went 2-for-6 with six RBIs, a double, home run and two runs scored.
The 'Dogs added a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth as pinch-runner McCarthy Tatum scored on Ashford's double to left-center and Ashford came home to score on a sacrifice fly to center field by Carter Bins.
