FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's tennis head coach Luke Shields announced the signing of Angus Bradshaw for the upcoming 2018-19 season. The Stetson transfer will join the Bulldogs as a junior, with two years of eligibility.
"We are really excited to work with Angus," said Shields. He will bring great energy and leadership to our team right away. He is looking to take his game to a new level and so this change is a good move for him. He has a lot of the ingredients to compete with some of the best players in the country in both singles and doubles. We look forward to getting to work with him."
The York, England native finished the 2018 season with a 14-6 overall singles record, playing at multiple singles positions for the Hatters. He finished the season with a 15-5 overall doubles record, playing primarily at the No. 2 position. He helped lead the Hatters to a conference tournament final, falling to North Florida in the ASUN championship match. Bradshaw earned ASUN All-Conference Doubles Second-Team honors.
As a freshman, Bradshaw was named to the ASUN All-Conference First-Team after playing at both No.2 and No. 3 singles for Stetson. He finished the 2017 season with a 15-5 overall singles record and a 9-7 record in doubles play.
"I chose to transfer to Fresno State because Coach Shields was interested in me before I entered college, and he is focused on developing players for their long term goals and helping them become men," said Bradshaw. "The team environment at Fresno State seems to be one which allows the growth of players to happen and the whole team seems hungry to achieve big things in the future. I was also looking to play in a tough conference, that combined with the facilities at Fresno State made it the right choice."
Bradshaw is the first member of the Bulldogs 2018-18 signing class.
Fresno State will return six letter winners, after graduating two seniors. The Bulldogs finished the 2017-18 season with a 19-12 (6-1 MW) record. Fresno State finished the season with a perfect 11-0 record at home. The Bulldogs season ended in the championship match of the Mountain West Tournament, falling to Utah State 4-1.
