FRESNO, Calif. – Head coach Chad Spencer and the Fresno State men's golf team have announced the tournament schedule for the 2018-19 season. In total, the Bulldogs will compete in 11 tournaments across six different states.
Â
"We are very excited for this upcoming season," said Spencer. "The guys will be familiar with the schedule this fall as it's the same as last fall. This should provide extra comfort and confidence on these challenging layouts. Most of the guys have had very successful summers and are ready to kick off the season in late September."
Â
The fall schedule features five events, opening Sept. 24-25 at the Inverness Collegiate at Inverness CC in Toledo, Ohio. The Bulldogs will then travel home to Fresno to host the Nick Watney Invite for the fifth consecutive year at Dragonfly, Oct. 1-2. The 'Dogs finished fifth in last year's invitational.
Â
Watney, a former Bulldog and teammate of Spencer's, has accumulated 51 top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour, including five victories, since the birth of his professional career in 2003.
Â
Fresno State will finish the fall schedule on a stretch of California tournaments by competing in three more. The MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. will be held Oct. 8-9. That will be followed by the Pacific Invitational at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif., being held Oct. 25-27.
Â
The Bulldogs will conclude the fall season by taking part in the St. Mary's Invite at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach, Calif., Nov. 5-7.
Â
The spring schedule will kick off for Fresno State on Feb. 21-23, when they will travel to Lihue, Kauai to compete in the John Burns Intercollegiate at Wailua Golf Course. The 'Dogs will be back in California for the next tournament as they head to the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Golf Club in Sacramento, Calif., March 4-5.
Â
The Bulldogs will be back out of state for the next two tournaments as they compete in the 2019 Bandon Dunes Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Club in Bandon, Ore., March 10-12, followed by action in the 2019 Seattle Invite at Chambers Bay in Seattle, Wash., April 1-2.
Â
Fresno State will conclude the spring regular season in the El Macero Classic at the El Macero Country Club in Davis, Calif., April 12-14.
Â
The Mountain West Championships will be held at Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz., April 26-28. Should the 'Dogs make the NCAA Regionals, the event will be held at Stanford Golf Club in Palo Alto, Calif., May 13-15.
Â
Head Coach Chad Spencer will be entering his sixth season at the helm of the program. The Bulldogs will have an even reload this season as they replace three outgoing seniors with three incoming freshman on top of the six returners. Among the incumbents is senior Alex Lee, who won the Geiberger Invitational last season and was selected to the All-Mountain West Team.
