- Fresno State will enter the Rose Bowl having won its previous two matchups against UCLA, defeating the Bruins in Pasadena in 2008 and in a bowl game in 2003.
- The series between the Bulldogs and Bruins dates back to 1927Â with UCLA winning the first six games of the series from the initial contest; its last win vs. the 'Dogs was in 2000.
- 'Dogs vs. the Pac-12: Fresno State squared off against Washington last season, has UCLA this year, and will see opponents from the Pac-12 for the next seven seasons as the 2019 through 2025 schedules feature at least one contest against a Pac-12 program, including UCLA again in 2021 and 2024.
- The Bulldogs, coming off their first double-digit win season since 2013, will look to be the first Fresno State team to win double-digit games in back-to-back seasons since 1988-89.
- Fresno State was picked to win the West Division in the 2018 preseason poll released by the Mountain West (selected by the media). The predicted championship game pits the Bulldogs against Boise State for a second consecutive year.
- WR KeeSean Johnson leads the nation in consecutive games with at least one reception checking in at 38 - the next closest individual sits at 31.
- Knack for the big game: LB Jeff Allison set a career-high in tackles with 15 at Minnesota - breaking his previous high of 14 set at Alabama in 2017.
- Over the hill: LB James Bailey, LB George Helmuth, WR KeeSean Johnson and WR Jamire Jordan played in their 40th career games, respectively, at Minnesota. They lead all active players in career games.
- Fresno State leads the country in takeaways with eight, with seven coming in the opener.
