Marvin Adams, a California native, has joined the Fresno State men’s basketball staff as director of operations. Titus Shelton (player development) and Nate Leal (special assistant) have also been added to Hutson’s staff.
FRESNO, Calif. --- Marvin Adams has been hired as Fresno State's director of men's basketball operations, head coach Justin Hutson announced on Sunday.
Â
"Marvin checks all the boxes with his work ethic, ability to connect with our student-athletes and qualities as a person," Hutson said. "I worked with Marvin at San Diego State and I'm very familiar and comfortable with everything that he brings to our staff. He's been an assistant coach and now gets to succeed in more of an administrative role. I'm very excited to have him as a part of our program."
Â
At Fresno State, Adams, who spent the 2017-18 season as the lead assistant coach at Cal State Northridge, will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations, community service, team travel, practice coordination and other administrative logistics for the program.
Â
Prior to his time at CSUN, Adams was a graduate assistant coach at San Diego State from 2015-17, when he was a part of the staff when the Aztecs won the 2016 Mountain West regular season championship. Before that, Adams served as an assistant coach with Village Christian School in Sun Valley from 2012-2015. During his tenure with the Crusaders, Village Christian posted a stellar 83-12 record and won back-to-back CIF Southern Section championships in 2014 and 2015.
Â
Before transitioning into coaching, Adams played collegiate basketball at Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. While with the Blue Bears, Adams helped the team reach the conference championship for the first time in school history.
Â
Adams earned a degree in business administration in 2012 from Livingstone University and Master's in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University.
Â
"I'm thrilled to join Coach Hutson and his staff," Adams said. "It's an honor to have the opportunity to be here in the Valley and meet and work with the people in the community. I know that the people in Valley have so much pride in what the 'Green V' represents and we are working every day to make the community proud of our program."
Â
In addition to Adams, Hutson has also selected Titus Shelton as director of player development and Nate Leal as special assistant. Shelton and Leal both have deep Valley roots and significant experience in this region, especially in basketball skill development and program coordination.
Â
Fresno State will open the 2018-19 regular season on Nov. 6 when the Bulldogs host Alaska-Anchorage at the Save Mart Center. The 'Dogs will also play one preseason exhibition game on Nov. 2 against Humboldt State. Both contests will tip off at 7 p.m. PT. The Bulldogs' full 2018-19 schedule is expected to be released this week when the MW television partners finalize their broadcast selections.
