Opening day for the 'Dogs cut short by heavy rain in round two

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Fresno State Men's golf team teed off its 2018-19 season at the Inverness Intercollegiate, hosted by Toledo, at Inverness Country Club on Monday. The first round and part of the second round were played on Monday before the course became unplayable from heavy rain. The Bulldogs are currently sitting in 11th after carding a 305 through day one.

Redshirt senior Cody Riecks led the Bulldogs, shooting a first round 6-over-par 77 and a second round even-par 47 through 12 holes. The Auburn, Calif. native is tied for 25th place out of 78 individuals with a 6-over-par 124 through day one's competition.

Sophomore Kevin Huff posted the next lowest score for Fresno State. Huff finished the first round leading the team, shooting a 2-over-par 73 before carding a second round 5-over-par 55 through 13 holes, pushing him to a 7-over-par 128 on the day. The El Dorado Hills, Calif., native's current score has him tied for 29th place.

Senior Alex Lee followed Huff on the 'Dogs' scorecard with an 11-over-par 136 on the day. The Sacramento, Calif., native shot a 6-over-par 77 in round one and a 5-over-par 59 through 14 holes in the second round to place tied for 49th at the day's conclusion.

Sophomore Michael Cliff carded a 7-over-par 78 in round one and followed that with a 5-over-par 55 through 13 holes in round two, giving him an overall score of 12-over-par 133 on the day. The hometown Fresno, Calif., native is currently tied for 59th place.

Freshman Tyler Gardner saw the first action of his collegiate career on Monday, firing a 13-over-par 84 in the first round and a 9-over-par 64 through 14 holes in round two. The fellow Fresno, Calif., native is currently in 76th place with a score of 22-over-par 148.

As an individual competitor for the duration of the tournament, sophomore Lane Pulliam is currently tied for 61st, carding a 4-over-par 75 in the first round and a 9-over-par 64 through 14 holes in the second round. The Hanford, Calif., native tallied a final 13-over-par 139 on the day.

Thunderstorms are currently in the forecast, but play is set to resume from the last stopping point on Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. PT, should the whether permit.
