Big first half propels Bulldogs to 79-63 win at Nevada

RENO, Nev. – Racing out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter, Fresno State never looked back, winning its fourth straight game to open Mountain West play with a 79-63 defeat of Nevada on Saturday afternoon at Lawlor Events Center.
Candice paced the 'Dogs fourth game in league play, posting her third straight 20-point game with 24 points to go with eight rebounds. Maddi Utti chipped in 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Genna Ogier and Aly Gamez added nine points.

How It Happened
Fresno State bolted out a to 13-2 lead in the opening 2:40, picking up six points on three steals with its high intensity pressure defense. White was clicking from the jump, scoring six points during the run and finished with 11 in the quarter as the 'Dogs led 26-15. The Bulldogs continued to shoot over 50 percent in second quarter, opening with a 12-3 run. The 'Dogs extended their lead behind eight points from Utti and another six from White as the senior scored 17 in the 20 minutes. Fresno State held an 18-point advantage at halftime.

White stayed hot to start the second half scoring the Bulldogs first two points to move over the 20-point mark for the third straight game. The Bulldogs would increase their lead again in the third, outscoring the Wolf Pack 22-15 in quarter. With Fresno State holding a 25-point lead heading into the fourth, Nevada began to pick up momentum. The Wolf Pack would open the quarter with an 8-2 run the Bulldogs would only get outscored by nine in the quarter, winning their second straight road game by double digits. Â
