Fresno State to host Air Force, Holy Names

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team will host a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 27 in the Spalding G. Wathen Center. The Bulldogs will open Mountain West Conference play against Air Force at 9 a.m. PT, followed by a match against Holy Names at 4 p.m. PT.
Admission to all Fresno State men's tennis matches is free of charge.Â

QUICK LOOK AT THE 'DOGS
Fresno State is 2-1 this season, Sunday's match against Air Force will serve as the Bulldogs home opener.
Last week – Fresno State posted a 2-0 week on the road, with wins over Pepperdine (6-1) and Loyola Marymount (4-3).
Junior Zdenek Derkas was named MW Player of the Week after going 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position for the Bulldogs, and 1-1 in doubles at the No. 3 position. He recorded the first win over a ranked-opponent by the Bulldogs this spring after defeating No. 53 Adrian Otezback of Pepperdine (6-2, 7-5). He also defeated #60 Lukas Moenter of LMU in singles play (6-4, 6-4).
Overview – The Bulldogs return six letterwinners from last season. Fresno State has an ITA ranked doubles team in Mantas Bugailiskis and Cem Erturk, ranked the No. 46 team in the nation.

Air Force is 3-1 this season, 0-1 on the road.
Last week – The Falcons are coming off a 4-3 loss to UC Riverside (Jan. 25).
Last Season – Air Force finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 11-15 (1-6 MW).
Last time – The Falcons' 2018 season was ended by Fresno State in the quarterfinals of the 2018 MW Tournament, when the Bulldogs posted a 4-0 win on April 26. Fresno State owns the all-time record between the programs 10-1.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
The match between Fresno State and Holy Names will serve as an exhibition for the Hawks. Holy Names will not open its 2019 season until Feb. 8 against Sonoma State.
Last season – Holy Names finished the 2018 season with an overall 5-13 record.
Last time – Fresno state defeated Holy Names 6-1 on Jan. 28, 2018. The Bulldogs own the all-time series between the teams 2-0.
