'Dogs finish Cal Cup

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Fresno State water polo team finished the second day of the 2019 Cal Cup with losses to No. 2 Stanford and No. 3 UCLA.
The Bulldogs fall to 2-6 on the season.
vs. #2 Stanford – Stanford started the first quarter strong, outscoring the Bulldogs 8-2. Freshman Daphne Guervemont scored both of Fresno State's goals.
Fresno State scored its most goals in the second quarter, netting three. Trystyn Vuori scored two for the Bulldogs, and Emily Diacono scored one. The Cardinal put up five goals to take a 13-5 lead.
Stanford's defense kept Fresno State off the scoreboard in the third quarter. The Cardinal scored four goals to take a 17-5 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Diacono netted her second goal of the game and Isabella Magno found the back of the net to round out scoring for the Bulldogs. Stanford would tack on six goals to win the game 23-7.Â
Mackenzie Richards and Maddy Garcia split time in the goal for Fresno State. Guevremont and Vuori both scored a team-high two goals in the game.Â
vs. #3 UCLA – The Bulldogs had a battle against the Bruins. Maddie Loggins put the Bulldogs on the board in the first quarter. UCLA netted two goals to take a 2-1 lead over Fresno State.
Vuori and Sydney Coachman notched one goal apiece for the Bulldogs in the second quarter. UCLA would fire back with five of its own to take a 7-3 lead.
Fresno State and UCLA both scored two goals in the third quarter. Coachman recorded her first hat trick of the season scoring two goals in the quarter. The Bruins took a 9-5 lead into the final quarter.
The Bulldogs had their highest scoring quarter netting four goals. Coachman netted another two goals for Fresno State. Callie Woodruff and Guevremont both scored one goal apiece to round out scoring for Fresno State. UCLA scored five goals to take the win 14-9.
Richards and Garcia split time in the goal for Fresno State. Coachman scored a career-high five goals in the game.Â
