Fresno State to compete at UCLA Mini Invite

 LOS ANGELES – The Fresno State water polo team will travel to compete in the UCLA Mini Invitational on Saturday Feb. 2 at the Spieker Aquatic Center. The Bulldogs will face No. 3 UCLA at 9:45 a.m. PT and No. 7 Hawai'i at 12:15 p.m. PT.

Overview – The Bulldogs return 10 letterwinners, including their top two scorers and All-GCC selections in Emily Nicholson and Callie Woodruff. Madelynn Garcia will also return to the goal for the Fresno State, after emerging as the primary goalie last season. Garcia finished the 2018 season with 132 saves and a team-high 25 steals. The Bulldogs bolster their roster with eight freshman for the upcoming season. The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the Golden Coast Conference regular season in the 2019 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Last season – Fresno State wrapped up the program's inaugural season with a 7-18 (3-4 GCC) record and finished sixth in the Golden Coast Conference Championships. The first-year program had two All-GCC selections, including the Co-Newcomer of the Year Nicholson, who also received AWPC All-America honors.

- After starting the 2019 season unranked, the Bulldogs have pushed their way up to No. 14 in the national rankings.
- Last week, the Bulldogs had an 11-9 upset over No. 11 Long Beach State in the 2019 Cal Cup. Fresno State faced three teams within the Top 5 including No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 UCLA and No. 4 Cal.
- Trystyn Vuori was named the Golden Coast Conference Player of the week for games played through Jan. 29. Vuori led the Bulldogs to victory over the No. 11 49ers, scoring a career-high four goals.
- This is the first time in program history that Fresno State has logged back-to-back GCC Player of the Week awards. Emily Nicholson was named the GCC Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 24.
- Fresno State's offense is averaging 7.88 goals per game.
- Nicholson leads the Bulldogs' offense this season with 12 goals.
- Mackenzie Richards has spent a majority of the minutes in the goal for the Bulldogs. Richards has recorded 10 or more saves in three games this season.
- Fresno State and UCLA met in the Cal Cup on Jan. 27. The Bruins defeated the Bulldogs 14-9, to take a 1-0 lead in the all-time series between the programs.
- This will be the first meeting between Fresno State and Hawai'i in program history.
