‘Dogs ready for first duals road test against Saint Mary’s and Oregon

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team will face its first road test in duals on the season this weekend as it travels to Euguene, Ore., to take on Saint Mary's in a neutral-site match on Saturday at noon P.T., followed by a Sunday faceoff with Oregon at 2 p.m. PT at the Student Tennis Center.

Results for the matchup between Fresno State and Saint Mary's will be provided on GoBulldogs.com and the Fresno State women's tennis Twitter account, @FresnoStateWTEN, after the conclusion of the match.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE 'DOGS
Fresno State is 2-0 on the season after sweeping the competition in last weekend's dual season opening home stand, defeating Stanislaus State, 6-1, and Pacific, 4-2.
After taking the conference crown last season, the reigning Mountain West champion Bulldogs have brought a revamped squad into the new season with just two returners in the lineup and six true freshmen rounding out the roster. Fresno State is led by first-year head coach Ric Mortera. The 'Dogs have no seniors on the team as the two incumbents include junior Georgia Lawson and sophomore Alessia Dario.
Freshman Jennifer Timotin has taken the lead role of the young core, going 9-8 in singles overall this season, while winning her first two dual singles matches at the one spot. The Dublin, Ireland, native is also 8-6 in doubles on the season, adding another win at the one spot alongside Lawson last weekend.
Fellow freshman A.C. Hummel opened her first collegiate tennis season on the right foot as well, going 6-5 in singles and staying perfect in duals play after adding two singles wins and a doubles win last weekend.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
Saint Mary's is 0-2 this season, with both matches being played on the road.
Last week: The Gaels are competed in the ITA Kickoff weekend in Malibu, Calif., where they dropped to No. 1 Stanford on Saturday, 4-0, then were swept again by SMU on Sunday, 4-0.
Last season: Saint Mary's finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 13-9, going 6-3 in WCC play.
Last time: The Gaels defeated Fresno State, 4-3, on Feb. 11, 2018. After winning the first eight contests between the teams, the 'Dogs maintain the all-time series lead, 9-7.
SCOUTING THE DUCKS
Oregon is 1-2 on the season, winning its lone home match over Loyola Marymount. The Ducks currently boast two ranked singles players in No. 50 Daniela Nasser and No. 81 Shweta Sangwan.
Last week: Oregon is also coming off a tough stretch at the ITA kickoff weekend in Malibu, Calif., where it fell to Denver last Saturday, 4-0, then came up short against UNLV on Sunday, 4-2.
Last season: The Ducks finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 16-10, going 5-5 in Pac 12 play and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The finish marked Oregon's best overall record since the 2005 season.
Last time: Oregon defeated Fresno State, 5-2, on March 3, 2018. After winning six of the first seven matchups between the two, the 'Dogs lead the all-time series, 6-4.

Following this weekend's competition, Fresno State will take another northward-bound road trip. The 'Dogs will first visit San Francisco, Calif., to take on the Dons at 2 p.m. PT on Feb. 9. They will then make the short drive to Santa Clara, Calif., to face the Broncos at 2 p.m. PT on Feb. 10.
