Fresno State has singles success at Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team hosted the second annual Bulldog Classic over the weekend. The tournament was highlighted by Daniel Baturyn taking second place in the Singles Flight White and Bailey Gong taking third place in the Singles Flight Blue.
SINGLES
Singles White Flight – Baturyn defeated Dariush Jalai of UC Davis in the opening round 6-2, 7-5. He moved on to the quarterfinals to defeat Andrew Watterson of Saint Mary's in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The freshman bested Abhishek Bastola of Saint Mary's 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals. Baturyn fell to Phuc Huynh of San Francisco in a close three-set match in the championship 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Singles Blue Flight – Gong bested Elliot Anarp of Sacramento State 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round. He advanced to the quarterfinals where he fell to Akbar Mamirov of Saint Mary's 6-3, 6-4. He won the third place match, defeating Cody Castro of Venture College 7-6(2), 6-1.
DOUBLES
Baturyn and Gong fell to Hawk and Mamirov of Saint Mary's in a tiebreaker 8-7(7). The duo moved to the backside of the bracket where they were bested by Castro and Rosales of Ventura College.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Fresno State men's tennis team will travel to Santa Barbara to compete in the UCSB Fall Invitational Oct. 11-13.
