Fresno State visits USD for first time since 2010
This is the 11th all-time meeting between the programs and the first since the Bulldogs' 74-70 road win at USD on Dec. 7, 2010. Â Fresno State is 9-1 against USD, including a 3-0 record in true road games. Two of the last three games in the series have been four or fewer points. Â Hutson is 1-0 against WCC opponents as the Bulldogs beat Pacific 81-78 last season in Fresno.
Last Game: Bulldogs beat buzzer to clip Eagles, 77-74
With Paul George sitting courtside, the Fresno State men's basketball team rallied for a thrilling 77-74 buzzer-beating win over the Winthrop Eagles on Sunday afternoon at the Save Mart Center. Fresno State (1-1) used big nights by two of its newcomers – Jarred Hyder and Mustafa Lawrence – to shoot its way past Winthrop (1-1). Hyder finished with a game-high 26 points, including five 3-pointers, and Lawrence called ball game when he took a pass from Hyder in the final seconds and drained the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired. This was the Bulldogs' first win on a shot at the buzzer since Allen Huddleston's game-winning halfcourt 3-pointer to win in overtime at UC Irvine 98-97 in 2013. Fresno State senior forward Nate Grimes added 15 points and 15 rebounds for his first double-double of the season (24th of his career).
Consistent, sustained success for the Bulldogs
Fresno State is 48-24 in Mountain West play over the course of the last four seasons (since the start of the 2015-16 season), which ranks as the second-best conference record in the 11-team league. Â Fresno State is one of two MW programs to have won 35 or more MW gmaes in the last three seasons, one of three programs to have won 45 or more MW games in the last four seasons and one of four teams with 55 or more MW wins in the last five seasons. Â Fresno State is the only program to have won at least 10 MW games in each of the last five seasons and the only team to have earned a first-round bye for the MW Tournament in each of the last five seasons.
Fresno State's consistency leads to success
Fresno State is one of two Mountain West programs (San Diego State) to have a .500 record or better with at least nine wins in league play in each of the past six seasons. Fresno State has averaged 11.2 conference wins per season over the last six seasons, with at least 10 MW wins in now five straight seasons, including a 13-5 mark twice (2015-16 & 2018-19).
Fresno State retired Paul George's Jersey during home opener
Paul George, a six-time NBA All-Star and 2016 Olympic gold medalist, had  his No. 24 jersey retired during Fresno State's home opener on Nov. 10.  George, a native of Palmdale, Calif., has become a bonafide NBA superstar after shining for two seasons at Fresno State before being drafted No. 10 overall in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers.  George spent his first seven seasons (2010-17) in the NBA with the Pacers, and then two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-19) before becoming a member of the Los Angeles Clippers this summer. George is the second former Fresno State men's basketball student-athlete to be honored with a jersey retirement, joining former Bulldog coach and student-athlete Jerry Tarkanian, who had his #2 jersey retired on March 1, 2014.
