FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State men's tennis head coach Luke Shields announced the signing of Karl Collins. Collins will join the Bulldogs for the 2020-21 season as a freshman, with four years of eligibility.
"What stood out in the recruiting process was Karl's Character," Shields said. "He is unselfish, humble, and has a quiet work-ethic that most champions possess. He has improved every year because of his attitude and strong values. He is really driven and has high goals for himself. His willingness to learn and his ability to be coached will help propel him forward at a drastic rate. I am confident that he will be a great student and phenomenal asset to our team on the court."
Â
Collins, a West Contra Costa senior hails from Richmond, California. He has made tremendous strides in both his NorCal and National recruiting ranking in recent years, jumping nationally from 191 (2017) to as high as 54 (2019) in the country for the recruiting class of 2020, earning him a Five Star rating on the Tennis Recruiting Network. He is currently ranked No. 1 for USTANorCal 18s age group for Singles and Doubles. Collins is undefeated in high school competition and is the current back-to-back CIF - North Coast Section Singles Champion. He trains at Claremont Resort and Spa under the tutelage of Rosie Baries and Dale Evans.
"I really respect Coach Shields and Coach Steve Loop," said Collins. "I love the facilities and enjoyed the campus atmosphere on my official visit. I just want to get better and win with the team. Winning matches is the number one goal. I can see myself getting better and growing both as a player and person as a Bulldog."
Collins is the first member of the 2020 signing class.
