FRESNO, Calif. – Patrick Huls has been named a volunteer assistant coach for the Fresno State women's tennis program, head coach Ric Mortera announced Friday. A former local high school star player, Huls joins the staff fresh off a successful run at the 2018 USTA Nationals.
"Patrick is a terrific addition to our staff," said Mortera. "His passion for Fresno State and love of the game is going to have a very positive impact on our young team. We are excited to have him join us."
Huls has deep roots in the Valley being an alumnus of local high school Clovis West. During his playing days, Huls was a two-time First Team All-Bee selection in 2012 and 2013. The Fresno, Calif., native was also named Clovis West's "Dream Team Captain," winning the 2013 TRAC doubles championship and being a three-time Valley champion from 2011 to 2013. Huls amassed a total singles record of 30-4 in the regular season over his three years playing varsity for Clovis West.
After high school, the new Bulldog assistant continued his playing career at Fresno City College, but stepped away to become the assistant pro at Sierra Sport and Racquet Club. Huls spent a year and a half there before becoming the Assistant Professional at Fig Garden Swim and Racquet Club, a position he's held for the past two and a half years. There, he led Fig Garden's men's 4.5 team to third place at the 2018 USTA Nationals.
