Hall leads the way at Rebel Beach Invitational

LAS VEGAS – Freshman Jessica Hall led the way for the Fresno State women's golf team at its opening spring tournament, earning a 12th place finish against 85 other participants as the Rebel Beach Invitational came to a close on Tuesday at Spanish Trail Golf Club.

Hall fired a 7-over-par 223 at the 54-hole tournament. She closed the event with a 5-over-par 77 after back-to-back scores of 1-over-par 73 in rounds one and two.

"It was really exciting to see Jessica play the way she did on a challenging course with tough conditions," said head coach Emily Loftin. "She's put in a lot of hard work and it paid off this week."

Hall was not alone in the final round as Brigitte Thibault, Harriet Lynch and Kristin Simonsen all carded a 5-over-par 77 in the third round as well. Despite four of the five in action scoring single round teams lows of 77, the Bulldogs entered the day 10th in the team standings and jumped to a seventh place finish (309-302-308=919).

The Bulldogs' seventh place finish topped fellow Mountain West foe New Mexico (308-307-307=922), Nevada (311-300-311=922) and Colorado State (309-320-308=937) while co-host UNLV (290-295-297=882) took second and San Jose State (290-297-311=898) earned fifth. Arizona (291-294-293=878) claimed the team title against the 16-team field.

In addition to Hall's 12th place individual finish, Thibault was just two strokes back of her teammate and placed tied for 16th with a 9-over-par 225. Thibault's second round even-par 72 was the Bulldogs' lowest single round score at the Rebel Beach Invitational.

Lynch and Simonsen bettered their respective scores throughout the event. Lynch opened with an 8-over-par 80 and finished with back-to-back scores of 5-over-par 77 in rounds two and three. Simonsen opened with a 9-over-par 81 and finished with an 8-over-par 80 second round and 5-over-par 77 final round. Lynch placed tied for 50th and Simonsen tied for 63rd.

Kelsi Stieler fired a pair of 8-over-par 80's in rounds one and two, and carded a 10-over-par 82 in round three to finish tied for 70th.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next week, Feb. 25-26. The Bulldogs' second tournament of the spring is coined the Gold Rush and it is hosted by Long Beach State at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif. It will be the 'Dogs fifth consecutive trip to LBSU's annual tournament.
