Bulldogs tied for fifth at Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. – Among a field of 17 teams, the Fresno State men's golf team sits in fifth place following Sunday's opening round of the Bandon Dunes Championship. The event is being hosted by Gonzaga at the Bandon Dunes Golf Course, one of four courses at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

The 'Dogs are bunched together with three other squads (Denver, Oregon State and USC Upstate) at 12-over-par 300. Ohio State is in the lead, nine shots ahead of Fresno State.

Individually, freshman Tommy Stephenson fired a team-best 2-over 74. He was 1-under over his last nine holes on Sunday to help propel him into a tie for 14th place.

Sharing scores of 3-over 75 were classmates Alex Lee and Cody Riecks. The two seniors are tied for 22nd. Riecks had one of the more consistent rounds for the 'Dogs as he led the team with 13 pars.

Sophomore Kevin Huff, just two shots back from Stephenson, sits in a tie for 37th. The El Dorado Hills, Calif. native fired a 4-over 76 to open the championship.

Finally, freshman Seldon Doyle, who led the Bulldogs with a team-high five birdies, finished the first day 5-over (77). Doyle dropped five shots over the final three holes to fall into a tie for 45th.

The second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship gets underway at 8 a.m. PT on Monday morning with a shotgun start. The final round begins at the same time on Tuesday. Live stats can be viewed at Golfstat.com.
