FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State water polo team fell to No. 18 Harvard in a battle 13-12, Tuesday night. The No. 13 Fresno State had three Bulldogs record hat tricks in the upset.
"I'm glad we had the opportunity to play in an overtime game like this before we start conference play on Saturday," head coach Natalie Benson said. "We have been talking about one-goal games all season. Last season, we had four one-goal games that we lost. Our goal is to win these one-goal games this season. We had our first opportunity to do that, some players responded well to the challenge while others didn't. We scored nine goals in the first half, and only scored two goals in the second half. We had a lot of opportunities that we didn't capitalize on, and that's how you lose a game. This is a great check for our team. You have to play all four quarters. We are going to learn from this experience and prepare for our conference opener."
Fresno State falls to 8-11 (0-0 GCC) on the season, and 2-2 at home.
