Four ‘Dogs shoot under-par in second round of El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. – Four Bulldogs turned in under-par scores on Saturday at the El Macero Classic to help push the Fresno State men's golf team up the leaderboard and into fifth place with Sunday's final round looming ahead. Fresno State shot 9-under in the second round, 22 strokes better than its first round 13-over, and trail the event leader, No. 10 Texas Tech by seven strokes.
Senior Cody Riecks and sophomore Michael Cliff shared a team-best 3-under 69 on Saturday while sophomore Kevin Huff carded a 2-under 70 and freshman Tommy Stephenson fired a 1-under 71.
Leading Fresno State on the individual leaderboard is Stephenson. Paired with his team-best even-par 72 in the first round, he sits in a tie for sixth place at 1-under (143).
Cliff joined Stephenson in the top 10 as he moved to even-par after two rounds (144). Cliff, tied for ninth place, shot 3-over in the first round and 3-under in the second round.
The other half of the quartet to shoot under-par on Saturday, Huff and Riecks, are still on the outside looking in as Huff is in a tie for 36th and Riecks is in a tie for 49th.
The Bulldogs' season scoring average leader, senior Alex Lee, carded a 3-over 75 in the second round. He is tied for 38th looking toward Sunday's final round.
The final round of the El Macero Classic concludes Sunday with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. Live stats can be viewed at Golfstat.com.
