Lee remains in the hunt for MW title

TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Alex Lee lost his lead on Saturday, but is still in hot pursuit of the Mountain West Men's Golf individual championship as he sits just two shots back from the lead. Lee fired a second round 2-under 70 and is 7-under for the tournament.

The senior started Saturday with three-straight birdies, and got to 4-under for the day after his fifth birdie of the second round on the 10th hole. Lee finished the last eight holes with four pars, one more birdie and three bogeys. Lee is tied for third place, trailing New Mexico's Sean Carlon (9-under) and Galven Greeen (8-under).

Freshman Tommy Stephenson carded a matching 2-under 70 alike Lee on Saturday. He is 3-under for the championship and is tied for 18th place.

Also under-par for the championship is senior Cody Riecks. He fired a second round team-low 3-under 69 and is now 1-under after 36 holes. Riecks is tied for 28th.

Trailing the three that are under-par are sophomores Kevin Huff (even-par) and Michael Cliff (3-over). Huff shot a 2-over 74 on Saturday and is tied for 30th while Cliff carded an even-par 72 and is tied for 41st.

As a team, the 'Dogs trail the leader Colorado State by nine strokes. The Bulldogs are 13-under and sit in fifth.

The final round of the 2019 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship will begin Sunday morning at 7 a.m. The Bulldogs are slated to tee off in nine minute intervals starting with Cliff at 8:20 a.m., followed by Riecks (8:28 a.m.), Stephenson (8:36 a.m.), Huff (8:44 a.m.) and Lee (8:52 a.m.)
